Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Mission public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Comprehensive Animal Control Ordinance Modernization
A sweeping rewrite of city animal rules — four-chicken limit with no roosters, tighter tethering rules, dangerous dog procedures, cruelty provisions, and a duck-feeding ban at Bannworth Park — was tabled for more council review.
Proposed drug testing ordinance for city officers
The mayor asked the city attorney to draft an ordinance requiring random drug testing for city officers — including council members themselves. It's framed as a transparency gesture; expect a vote at a future meeting.
Grant Acceptances for Police and Cultural Programs
The police department is pursuing federal grants for bulletproof vests and body-worn cameras, alongside uniform purchase authorizations.
Alcohol Sales Permit for Ricardi Café
The Drunken Chicken on Conway can now serve alcohol with its BBQ, and a new bar/lounge called Mala Fama is coming to Expressway 83 with live music, three required security officers, and a 145-person cap.
