Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Mission public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Proposed drug testing ordinance for city officers
The mayor asked the city attorney to draft an ordinance requiring random drug testing for city officers — including council members themselves. It's framed as a transparency gesture; expect a vote at a future meeting.
Emergency Preparedness
Heavy rain on the way? Mission is handing out free sandbags so you can protect your property before the storm hits.
Emergency Water Service
If you're near South Shary Road, expect low water pressure today because crews are diverting supply to fight a major house fire. Everything should be back to normal once the blaze is under control.
Mission Regional Medical Center Safety Recognition
The city honored Mission Regional Medical Center for achieving its 12th consecutive A grade for patient safety from the Leapfrog Group, making it the only hospital in the Rio Grande Valley to reach this milestone.
